Kim Nettleton-Croley

LEEP Associate, University of Exeter Business School

Biography

Kim works with projects and programmes designed to enrich and protect the diversity of cultural heritage and the biodiversity of the natural world. She joined the University of Exeter at the start of 2020 with a strong background in delivering and consulting on grant funded activity in the South West (working with music, dance education, historic buildings, film, radio and more recently the natural environment) for Arts Council England and National Heritage Lottery Fund.

At Exeter, Kim has worked with teams to develop UKRI and NERC funded programmes to create a range of outputs including small and large scale in-person and online events, bespoke websites, visual presentations and design for print media. During the first months of the pandemic she joined a small core-team working with Professors Peter Hopkinson and Fiona Charnley to successfully deliver Phase 1 of the UKRI Circular Economy Hub, which was awarded £3.5M by UKRI.

In the spring of 2021, Kim joined Exeter’s delivery team for the Research Excellence Framework REF2021, reviewing and refining all Impact Case studies submitted to the REF from across the Institution, and redrafting a full suite of ICSs for the Faculty of Humanities.

The South West Partnership for Environmental and Economic Prosperity, SWEEP, homed in the LEEP institute and directed by Professor Ian Bateman OBE, has been one of the most highly successful and impactful research-focused partnerships at Exeter, “applying environmental research to bring natural capital into the heart of decision making, for the benefit of the environment, for society and the economy”. Kim joined the SWEEP team at the start of 2022 to support the conclusion of the 5-year programme and the final stage reporting to NERC, the Natural Environmental Research Council.

Through ongoing work with LEEP teams, Kim has enjoyed a unique and responsive research community culture in which groundbreaking research is conducted by outstanding individuals, guided by an ethos of safeguarding hope for future generations through working with solutions for positive change.

In the spring of 2023, Kim began developing this website for the Dragon Capital Chair in Biodiversity Economics; a 5-year post held by Professor Ben Groom and homed in LEEP. The Dragon Capital team and partners’ focus is a dedication to understanding and reducing the impact of economic activities on biodiversity to influence public policy, economic incentives and allocations in the wider economy. The website is co-designed and developed with Dawn Scott and Chris Band.

Kim started work in London as a music photographer and producer following an Art & Design Foundation diploma, travel across the Indian sub-continent and a Philosophy degree at the University of Leeds. In November of 2023 Kim was invited to join Jill Taylor and the Development Team at Exeter Cathedral, delivering a multi-million pound capital build programme. Exeter Cathedral is committed to a Net Zero target by 2030 and has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Exeter.
